This can create a ‘throw-away’ habit where people change their phones frequently and unnecessarily, thereby contributing to environmental problems.

Moreover, as the advertisements make the latest smartphones seem very attractive, many consumers like teenagers may feel pressured to own one. This increases peer pressure, causing those without such devices to feel left out.

Advertising companies often promote new phone models by highlighting faster processing speeds and higher camera megapixels. Longer battery life is another frequently advertised feature. While new models may have larger batteries or new hardware, these changes are not always necessary.

In many cases, the actual improvements between old and new models are small, while the price increase is large. It is worth considering whether the improvements in new models truly offer good value for money.
