Life in the past year has been very exciting for Shanti Pereira. Southeast Asia's fastest woman, Shanti Pereira, has become a household name¹⁶ in Singapore lauded for her outstanding performance after 49 years at last year's Asian Games.

The 28-year-old track-and-field athlete, often referred to¹⁷ as Singapore's sprint queen, clinched¹⁸ her first gold medal in the women's 200-metre race and silver in the 100-metre race at the Asian Games. She then set her eyes on the Paris Olympics. However, the journey was not easy.

Pereira told CNBC that one of the most difficult times of her career was when she suffered a hamstring injury in 2018 that derailed¹⁹ her training. As such, she could not progress beyond the Asian Games heats that year. The next few years were a struggle²⁰ for Pereira. However, she remained determined to achieve even greater success in her career.
